The last 24 hours have been a busy one for the Oliver Fire Department.
Members responded to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 97 near Brauns Road, where a vehicle hit some wire guard rails. The impact caused the vehicle to lose a wheel, according to media relations officer Rob Graham.
No cause was determined, and the area was checked to ensure the accident didn’t start a fire.
Firefighters were also called to a home near Road 1 to investigate a propane leak.
“The occupants had left for the day, returning home to the smell of propane. We found a knob on a propane stove had been bumped on,” Graham said.
Another call to the Coast Hotel in Oliver was related to a smoke alarm. Graham said they found a room on the third floor with a hot plate where some food was burning.
The smoke was cleared by opening some windows.
