Quick action from the Oliver Fire Department prevented the spread of a small grass fire near the dike off Thorp Road this afternoon.

Firefighters were called to a brush fire just north of the Thorp Road bridge at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday. The fire appeared to originate from a pump house near an oxbow, but the cause was undetermined.

Firemen had to endure blistering temperatures but managed to gain control quickly.

There were no structures nearby, and no injuries reported.
