The year has gone by so fast, and a new group of Oliver Ambassadors is ready to represent the community and make it proud. The following are biographies of the candidates and their photos by Juliana Martine. Be sure to attend the pageant on August 19 and 20 at Frank Venables Theatre at 6:30 p.m.

Jeevan Gill

Jeevan Gill

Jeevan Gill –  My name is Jeevan Gill. My very generous sponsor is the Rotary Club of Oliver. Oliver is my home town and I am 15 years old. I currently attend SOSS and my favourite subjects are math and English. Playing soccer and tennis are a couple of my pastimes. I would one day like to have a successful job that I am proud of. One inspirational quote that I turn to is by RJ Palacio, and it is: “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.” This has helped me so much thus far, and those experiences are ones that I will never forget.

Jasleen Dhillon

Jasleen Dhillon

Jasleen Dhillon – Hi, my name is Jasleen Dhillon, and three words I would use to describe myself are determined, hard working, and motivated. I am driven to be a successful family physician or possibly an optometrist. And it is with this drive that I’m certain I will succeed. I believe that in life one may accomplish whatever it is they are aiming for as long as they are willing to work hard for it. I am a 15-year-old SOSS student going into Grade 11. I am proud to be sponsored in the Ambassador Program by the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #97.

Simi Gill

Simi Gill

Simi Gill –  I am Sukhdeep Kaur Gill but most of you know me as Simi. I am a 2016 Oliver Ambassador candidate, who is proud to be sponsored by the great Kiwanis Club of Oliver. Oliver really does have a special spot in my heart; I’ve been living in Oliver since the day I was born and have never had the heart to leave this small welcoming town. I’m currently preparing for Grade 11 and enjoy science, math and drama. I have decided to continue my studies after high school and look to become an orthopedic surgeon. I chose this occupation since it relates to me the most. My friends would probably agree with me if I said I am prone to sports injuries. Sports, for me, help alleviate stress I feel in my daily life. I play basketball, soccer and recently started playing tennis. I also enjoy binge-watching Youtube videos in my spare time. My main priorities in life are to make my parents proud of the person they have raised me to be and to find true happiness in life. That’s really all I could ever ask for because, as someone smartly pointed out, “happiness is a journey, not a destination!”

Manvir Ghadu

Manvir Ghadu

Manvir Ghadu – My name is Manvir Ghadu. I very much appreciate the sponsorship in the Ambassador Program by the Oliver Lions Club. I am a 15-year-old girl who is going into Grade 11 at SOSS in Oliver. My hobbies include making funny videos for my friends and family, singing and playing sports. I was the type of girl who thought she had a lot of confidence, but I really don’t and I’m hoping to gain it throughout this program. My biggest dream in life is to become a city police officer in Toronto because I’m not afraid to risk my life every single day to save others.
