After being named a dangerous offender, Okanagan criminal Ronald Teneycke will be jailed indefinitely.

Teneycke, 55, appeared in court on Thursday in Penticton where judge Richard Hewson decided that rehabilitating the Okanagan Falls man was not an option.

Teneycke has been in custody for almost three years after he failed to show up for a weekend jail sentence and instead embarked on a crime spree in Oliver, which included armed robbery and a shooting.

In July of 2015, Teneycke robbed Eastside Grocery at gunpoint and shot Wayne Belleville from Oliver in the back. Belleville had stopped to pick up Teneycke who was hitchhiking.

Teneycke then stole Belleville’s truck and was apprehended after a police chase that ended in a Cawston orchard.

He pleaded guilty to the four charges in April of 2016.

Teneycke’s earliest criminal offence was in 1981 and the prolific offender now has 37 previous convictions, including the rape of a teenager in 1993.
