Get ready to take a trip “under the sea” as the Oliver Elementary School fine arts club presents Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.” this spring.

The production begins its three-night run at the Frank Venables Theatre on Tuesday, April 29 at 7pm and runs until Thursday, May 1. The 75-minute musical, designed for middle-school aged performers, is based on the 2008 Broadway production and the 1989 animated film, and features 42 students.

Fine arts leader and director Lori Martine said the staff and students have been working “very hard” for the past few months in preparation for their big night.

This classic Disney title contains all of the songs from the Academy Award winning animated feature film as well as three new songs from the Broadway show.

Set in a magical kingdom beneath the sea, The Little Mermaid Junior tells the story of Ariel, a young mermaid who longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above.

But first, she’ll have to defy her father, the king of the sea, escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she’s the girl with the perfect voice.

The OES fine arts club has been in existence under the director of Lori Martine since 1992. The group has produced many choral revues featuring students in Grades 4 through 7.

Past productions include; Annie Jr., Once on This Island Jr., Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Jr., Beauty and the Beast Jr., and Aladdin Jr. and “Rock On,” which was presented in April, 2013.

Admission for “The Little Mermaid Jr.” is $10 for Adults, $5 for students, and preschoolers, no charge.

Tickets are available in the Oliver Elementary School office and at the door.  For more information about “The Little Mermaid Junior” or other Disney shows, visit www.DisneyMusicals.com.
