A Canada-wide Rogers wireless outage has left many residents of BC unable to call 911
according to E-Comm, the emergency service’s provider.

On their twitter account, E-Comm have recommended re-trying emergency 911 calls from a
landline or a cellphone that uses a different provider if this occurs, and they ask that people who
are not in an emergency situation do not dial 911 just to “test” their connectivity as they need to
keep their lines open.

Many debit and INTERAC machines as well as e-transfer services are also currently
unavailable, and ICBC and BCAA have reported customer service issues. In addition, BC
Ferries and Translink have said that some of their customers are only able to make payments
with credit or crash.

Even toll-free numbers in the province have been impacted, particularly those used by non-profit
organizations. Anyone who faces this problem is advised to check the agency’s website for an
e-mail address or local phone number they can use until the outage is repaired.

At this time, Rogers has made no updates about the nature or possible causes of the outage.
“We sincerely apologize to our customers,” says a post on their RogersHelps twitter account,
“and we will continue to keep you updated as we have more information to share, including
when we expect service to be back up.”
