The Oliver RCMP detachment will have a new commander within a few months.
Mayor Martin Johansen said he met with Supt. Brian Hunter recently to discuss a change in leadership at the detachment.
Former commander Sgt. Blaine Gervais has been working in another capacity with the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment. Since Gervais left the Oliver detachment, Cpl. Scott VanEvery has been holding down the fort.
Johansen reported that Cpl. Brian Evans from the Keremeos RCMP will fill in as the interim commander in Oliver. Evans previously worked at the Oliver detachment.
The mayor said the RCMP is looking to find a permanent commander, one that is either a career sergeant or one that can be promoted. He added it could take six months to fill this position.
Supt. Hunter confirmed it will take some time to find a successor. “The end date of which I do not know.”
