Dr Bonnie Henry and Minister Adrian Dix announced 15 new COVID-19 test positive cases today.

These additional cases bring the total number in the province to 2,392. Interior Health has 181 cases, while Fraser Health has 1,149, Vancouver Coastal Health has 878, Vancouver Island Health has 126, and the Northern Health region has 58 cases. These numbers reflect the total number of test positive cases since testing began, and does not reflect active cases.

Current active case numbers are much lower, at 372 in the province, 58 of which are in hospital. There were an additional two deaths reported today.

Dr. Henry reminded the public that we need to be “cautious and careful” as we move into phase two of the province’s pandemic response plan.

We will be watching very carefully,” she said. “Part of our role in public health will be monitoring the number of new cases and in particular numbers of people who aren’t linked to known cases or outbreaks in our community.”

Dr. Henry further said that British Columbians will have to remain patient, as moving from phase to phase can only be done after 14 to 28 time periods.

“We know the incubation period for this virus is 14 days, so it will take us the next 14 to 28 days to understand the impact of the measures we’re taking in the coming week,” said Dr. Henry.

B.C. will not be moving into the next phase until health authorities are sure that case numbers have not increased beyond a manageable number.
