Families visiting the Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) Emergency Department with infants and toddlers will now benefit from a specialized pediatric crib thanks to a $16,500 donation from the PurKids Foundation.

This is no ordinary crib – designed specifically for hospital use, it includes enhanced safety features and medical adaptability to ensure children receive proper care during emergency visits. The new pediatric crib is now in use at PRH.

The initiative began with Penticton resident and business owner, Hollie Tayal, saw firsthand the need for improved pediatric care equipment. When her young daughter, Lindie, required an emergency visit, the department had no crib available, making it difficult for Hollie to take a break to eat or drink or even use the bathroom since she could not leave Lindie unattended in a hospital bed.

Wanting to make a difference, Tayal reached out to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation (SOSMF) to explore options. With support from the PurKids Foundation, the charitable arm of Modern Purair, of which Tayal is a long-time franchise owner, the funds were secured to purchase a dedicated pediatric crib for the PRH Emergency Department.

“This gift demonstrates the incredible impact one person can have when they see a need and step forward to meet it,” said Ian Lindsay, CEO of the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation.

“Thanks to Hollie’s initiative and the PurKids Foundation’s generosity, families across the South Okanagan will benefit from safer, more comfortable pediatric care in our emergency department.”

“PurKids Foundation has been very generous in providing the funds to purchase this much-needed crib,” Tayal said.  “It’s a way for us to ensure that families with small children coming to the ER in Penticton will have the resources they need for a  safer, less stressful experience.”
