Some of the best painters in the South Okanagan will be showing their work in a new exhibition at The Art Gallery Osoyoos that opens Saturday.

Spring Palette is the annual show by the South Okanagan-Similkameen chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA).

An opening reception at the gallery is planned for 2 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, but doors open at noon.

The local FCA chapter is based in Penticton, but the show includes work from artists in such communities as Osoyoos, Oliver, Okanagan Falls, Penticton, Summerland and Keremeos.

Michael Jorden, the Osoyoos artist managing the show, said the format would be essentially the same as in previous years.

The works are obviously different. They’ll be mainly paintings with acrylics, oils and watercolours, though visitors shouldn’t be surprised to see a few encaustic pieces – a technique using hot wax.

Jorden said 45 pieces from 23 artists have been juried into the show.

The jurying is done through the FCA’s Vancouver office.

The reception will also include presentations of awards to artists whose work is judged to be among the best in the show.

This is the sixth year that the local FCA chapter has held a show at the gallery and it’s the third time it’s been held in the spring.

Because artists need to qualify for active or signature status FCA membership, and the work is juried, it tends to be of high calibre.

Spring Palette runs until March 31.

The Art Gallery Osoyoos is located at 8713 Main Street, just west of town hall. It is open Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
