The Oliver Fire Protection District presented the Town of Oliver with a cheque for $356,698.95 covering half of the cost of the purchase of a new fire truck for the Oliver Fire Department.

The brand-new truck – a custom cab built by Hub Fire Engines in Abbotsford on a Spartan chassis – was delivered in October.

Bob Graham, Oliver Fire Chief noted that it is an engine, meaning it also carries some water. It will be replacing a truck which will be reassigned to a secondary role for the department.

“This one was custom built for us, everything on the truck was designed by committee and given to a number of manufacturers to bid on and Hub’s bid was chosen,” Graham explains.

Meanwhile, the fire department held a BBQ fundraiser – complete with the oldest and newest fire engines – sponsored by Buy-Low Foods on Nov. 18 with proceeds going to the Oliver Lion’s Club.

The breakfast is by donation and involves driving through the firehall to pick up the breakfast items. Graham says the event typically raises around $2,000 which goes to a local charity each year. This year it will support Oliver’s Lions Club International to assist people with disabilities go to camp.
