Crime Watch coordinator Ron Johnson is optimistic about the new vehicle that the Town of Oliver has donated for the cause.

“This vehicle will be ideal for us,” he said at Monday’s meeting when council agreed to retain the vehicle within the Town’s fleet (for maintenance and insurance purposes).

The vehicle is a retired Public Works truck that has been equipped with radios, lights and new branding (decals).

Some funding ($2,150) from the regional district (Area C) has been received to help cover costs.

Johnson said although the vehicle won’t be able to sneak up on nefarious people, it will be like a police car with more deterrence.

Councillor Maureen Doerr said she recently joined the Crime Watch group.
