Oliver-Osoyoos RCMP spokesman Sgt. Ken Harrington has confirmed that Ace Elkink, who owns a ranch just west of Osoyoos, was the victim of an assault at the Oliver Airport on 95th Street on July 31.
Elkink holds a water licence for the Testalinden Lake reservoir, which burst on June 13 causing a mudslide near Oliver’s Road 16.
The mudslide destroyed at least five homes and wiped out several hectares of orchard and vineyards.
Harrington would not provide details on the alleged assault, but did confirm the person accused of assaulting Elkink was one of the people affected by the slide.
According to non-police reports, Elkink was putting his aircraft in one of the hangars at the airport when he was confronted.
He suffered minor injuries from the incident, which is still under investigation, Harrington said.
