I would like to congratulate you (School District 53) and your educational partners on reaching your highest aboriginal six-year completion rate of 75 per cent.
Your ongoing commitment to aboriginal student success is evident in the achievement you have attained.
I am encouraged by the provincial aboriginal rate that has gone up to 62 per cent – its highest ever due to the work of each and every district in our province.
I know that the success of our aboriginal students comes in part from their inclusion in your district goals and strategic plans, your Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement and your work to develop trusting partnerships.
It is a great time to celebrate the successes of aboriginal students as a result of our efforts to transform our education system. With each new graduate you are providing opportunities and opening doors to new possibilities for more aboriginal students each and every year. I know we still have a great deal of work ahead of us, but I would like to take this opportunity to pause and reflect on the achievements being made.
