Dear Editor:

I have had reservations about Osoyoos town councils for some time. It all started when council bought two solar-powered garbage cans for $20,000.

They then bought a community bus for about $80,000 which they seem to have had trouble finding a use for.

Next up was a proposed eight-bay fire hall on Highway 97, a hall which could be expanded to 12 bays even though a second hall on the east side of the bridge has been discussed by council.

And last, but not least, is the town’s new garbage contract.

I understand BFI Canada was the low bidder by a small amount. Personally, I was quite happy  with the last company that won the contract to pick up our garbage and I suspect with BFI’s $2.50 per week extra charge, the cost will be much higher than the last company’s.

I guess only time will tell if that’s the case.

I would like to suggest council add this new cost to BFI’s bid and if more than the last company’s bid, cancel the contract and return it to the previous company.
