Excellent letter to the editor by Tom Szalay regarding the proposed rural aquatic centre (Times Chronicle Oct. 6).
As a bookkeeper I really appreciated all the math. I also wish that I could be asked and paid well to do a ‘study’ on something and come up with the obvious, that “the build cost would be big.” The little towns in the Okanagan are just that – little towns. The need for a huge and very expensive year-round aquatic centre is certainly not justifiable and should be totally shelved.
We have met many friends over the 22 years that we have owned a property in Oliver and not one of them support having to pay more taxes for something they will never use.
Where are all these swimmers coming from anyway? Mr. Szalay’s idea of building a roof on the existing Oliver Pool is an excellent one. Or like he mentions, a medical clinic.
Perhaps him and I could get together to do a ‘study’ on the feasibility of those two great ideas.
