LOOKS LIKE A BIG NEW NEIGHBOUR IS MOVING IN NEXT DOOR

(OSOYOOS TIMES — July 4, 2007) —

Unless the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) throws a roadblock in the way, it looks like we in Osoyoos are about to get a big new neighbour at the north end of the lake.
In fact, it could amount to more than 1,500 new neighbours!rnThe developer planning a major 800-home mixed residential community for Willow Beach has announced that the land purchase is final and the development proposal has been submitted to RDOS.
There is no doubt this huge new community will change the landscape between Oliver and Osoyoos, and it will have a big impact on our town.
At first blush, it should be good for local businesses “ but what more it will mean is less clear.
At this point we can at least say with certainty that most people in town will be watching the evolution of this development with great interest.
It's worth noting that since this development's inception, the people and companies in charge of it have been open and consultative in their approach, and that bodes well for how they will handle the massive project as it unfolds right next door to us.
*** Well, we can notch up another successful Canada Day 'Cherry Fiesta' “ the 58th in our town's history.
'Successful' precisely because of the unceasing energy and efforts of dozens, perhaps even hundreds, of local volunteers who once again have come through with a small miracle.
There is a 'thank-you' ad elsewhere in this edition of the Times that names many of those responsible for the wonderful day we enjoyed on Sunday.
But there are even more unsung heroes who did big and small things that, taken together, created an event whose reputation makes it a draw not only for Osoyoosites, but for many hundreds of other people from across B.C.
The parade, pancake breakfast, beach and Gyro Park events, and fireworks were all wonderful yet again.
Our hats go off once more to all the volunteers.
