Walkers set out along the Irrigation Canal Walkway in Osoyoos for the Desert Hospice Society’s Hike for Hospice on Sunday. This is the first year that separate hikes have been held in Oliver and Osoyoos. The hike was to raise money for the organization that supports palliative and end of life care services. The Desert Valley Hospice Society opened a new Supportive Care Centre at 22 Jonagold in Osoyoos last fall and has been busy developing hospice programs to help individuals and their families face end-of-life issues. Their goal is to enable people to die with dignity, free from pain and surrounded by loved ones. (Richard McGuire photo)

Dot Cranston (right) will turn 90 later this year, but she walked nearly two kilometres from her home with her walker to support the Desert Valley Hospice Society's Hike for Hospice event in Oliver on Sunday. Cranston brought a donation, but she planned only to watch the hikers and take some photos with her trusty film camera. At the registration table were Juleen McElgunn (left), a volunteer, and Trudy Demorest, a volunteer and board member. (Richard McGuire photo)
