Colleen Ross was named the BC NDP candidate for Boundary Similkameen at a nomination meeting on January 15.

The Grand Forks city councillor beat challenger Brenda Dorosz after the vote on Sunday.

An advocate for social justice, environment and agriculture, Ross said she has witnessed first-hand how the decisions of the Christy Clark government are making it harder and harder for people to live here.

“Christy Clark isn’t working for you,” Ross said. “Our costs are going up and our healthcare and schools are being cut. The decisions she’s making are hurting our environment, our economy and our communities. Every day people are paying more, and getting less.”

BC NDP leader John Horgan said Ross “has the community connections, professional, political and leadership skills to be a great advocate for people in Boundary Similkameen.”

Ross has worked with government, organizations and community groups on a number of issues, including: housing needs, restoring profitability and opportunities in agriculture, the future of forestry, watershed management and protecting the Agricultural Land Reserve.

Among other pursuits, she has been farming for over 30 years, and presently grows organic crops and raises livestock on Grand Union Farm in Grand Forks.
