Two motor vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on Thursday (July 14) afternoon on one of the hairpin curves of Highway 3 on Anarchist Mountain.
The incident involved a dark-coloured SUV which was heading up the mountain in an east-bound direction and appeared to have moved out of its lane striking a red SUV that was travelling down the mountain in a westerly direction, according to the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department (AMFD).
The AMFD responded to the call at 3:30 p.m. and provided traffic control and medical assistance until BC Ambulance arrived. The highway just above Hallis Road was reduced to single-lane alternating traffic for a period of nearly 90 minutes, according to the AMFD.
The male driver of the westbound vehicle was taken by ambulance for further medical assessment but appeared not to be suffering any life-threatening injuries. The two males from the eastbound vehicle reported no injuries.
“The AMFD would like to remind drivers to follow the speed limits up and down the mountain, and to exercise patience as traffic can be slow this time of the year,” AMFD spokesperson Brenda Arychuk said.
“These curves are where we get the most accidents,” she said adding they are typically related to speeding.
In areas where there is an additional passing lane, Arychuk urged drivers to stay in the right-most lane when not passing.
