First responders from the Oliver Fire Department, Oliver and Osoyoos RCMP detachments and Oliver Search and Rescue showed up to flash their lights and sirens in the parking lot of the South Okanagan General Hospital on Wednesday evening.
Osoyoos Area Commander Sgt. Jason Bayda said the show of support was organized by the Oliver Fire Department and local RCMP joined in to show their support for those keeping us healthy and safe.
“Seeing reports of medical staff falling ill in other areas while attending to patients has really set home with how much these professionals do for us while risking their own safety. They need to be recognized for going above and beyond. Showing our appreciation is the least we could do to support them and tell them we have their backs. We pray they all remain healthy,” Bayda said.
The Osoyoos Fire Department did not get to attend, as they did not have enough staff, but Fire Chief Dave McMahon said they support the effort and are organizing their own form of appreciation for those in the Osoyoos community.
