The lovely ladies dominating the runway at the Fairview Mountain Golf Course Charity Fashion Show on May 23 won’t be wearing the traditional fashion show apparel; ankle-breaking stilettos, unforgiving fabric and monochromatic make-up. Nor will they be mugging Zoolander’s “blue-steel.” But then again, as co-organizer Linda Schultz reminded us, this isn’t just any fashion show.
“It’s a nice, casual, fun evening and it’s for a good cause,” said Schultz.
The event, now in its 10th year, is a fundraiser for breast cancer research, a cause that Schultz says is dear to her and many of Fairview’s resident golfers. In fact, she noted, the show was started as a way to show support for Carol Ziebart after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003.
Though Ziebart passed away in 2010, Schultz said her family has continued to support the show, even modelling some of the clothing, most of which comes from the golf course’s pro shop. Guests will also receive a 25 per cent discount on any clothing purchased at the shop that evening.
“Carol was an avid golfer and a friend. So Jennifer Stevenson, who worked at the Pro Shop at that time, and I thought we should do something for Carol and her family,” Shultz explained.
Stevenson and Schultz enlisted Fairview’s member services representative Debbie Olafson to help organize the event, which Schultz said has continued to see growing success, bringing in more than $20,000 for breast cancer research and awareness raising campaigns.
The recipient campaigns include BC Yukon Breast Cancer Foundation, Run for the Cure, the Sindi Hawkins Cancer Centre and Hope Air, a national charitable organization that provides free air transportation for financially burdened Canadians in need of specialized medical treatment outside their area.
The Fairview Mountain Golf Course Charity Fashion Show will take place on Friday, May 23 at Fairview Mountain Golf Course lounge. Doors open at 6 pm, with the show starting at 6:45.
The evening will also include a wine tasting, appetizers, door prizes and a raffle. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at Beyond Bliss or at the Pro Shop.
Ticket purchase includes $10 in “Fairview Bucks” toward any clothing purchase from the Pro Shop.
