There are several stories in this week’s paper that point to a few of the many people in the Osoyoos community who deserve recognition.
This week’s lead story is an effort by Osoyoos firefighters to restore an old 1953 fire truck to its former glory. The truck was used here in the 1950s and 1960s before being sold. About eight years ago, some local firefighters pooled their funds to buy it back.
By restoring it, they hope to raise awareness of the history of firefighting in this community, and some of the volunteers who have given decades of their lives to keeping this community safe.
Good luck to them. Hopefully members of the community will hop on board and help.
Osoyoos Music in the Park reached a milestone on Friday by drawing 600 people to a performance by the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy. Actually, they say it was 597 people, but counting crowds is not an exact science.
That’s not bad for a project run by volunteers that started in 2015. Janis St. Louis was the instigator and is the only remaining original member of the Three Amigos who started the free concerts, but the other Amigos, present and past, also deserve kudos for making Music in the Park a weekly summer event.
