At their meeting Sept. 2, Osoyoos town councillors voted to support an application by the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) to host a team at Osoyoos's Sun Bowl Arena for the 2009/2010 season.
The KIJHL is planning to expand its league next season and part of the approval process requires the consent of the owner and operator of the Osoyoos arena.
It would require a separate vote by Osoyoos council at a later date to actually approve a team for next season.
It tells the KIJHL we're open for business, said Coun. Ted Cronmiller as he voted to support the motion. It's a good thing to have.
There will be no junior hockey franchise in Osoyoos this season after councillors voted down a proposal from the World Hockey Association (WHA) earlier this year.
While Osoyoos hosted a WHA team in the 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 hockey seasons, councillors expressed concerns over the league's management and previous scheduling problems when they voted down that league's offer to set up shop here again.
