Some of the most beautiful and well-trained dogs in western Canada will be on display this coming weekend as the Skaha Kennel Club once again hosts it annual fall dog show.
More than 300 dogs – featuring dozens of breeds – will be on display during the show, which takes place Friday through Sunday at the Nk’Mip RV Park in Osoyoos.
“The Skaha Kennel Club has been around for more than 20 years and we’ve been holding this show for the past seven years in Osoyoos,” said Sandy Steck, who is in charge of hospitality and promotion of the dog show. “We will have dogs and dog owners from across British Columbia, as well as several from Alberta and Washington State and even a few from as far away as Ontario.
“This has quickly become the largest all breed championship dog show in the South Okanagan and it’s gained a reputation as one of the better shows in the province.”
There will be three all breed championship shows throughout the weekend, including the Pug Club of Canada trials and Irish Setter Club of Canada trials on Saturday afternoon, said Steck.
There will also be obedience trials and four rally trials on Saturday and Sunday.
Friday evening will feature a Peach of a Puppy tournament where dog owners will show off their new puppies, said Steck.
“We will have four confirmation rings and two trial rings going throughout the weekend and dog lovers will be able to see some incredible dogs in action all weekend,” she said.
Several prominent judges from British Columbia will also be making the visit to Osoyoos to judge this prestigious show, said Steck.
Steck said dog owners who enter competitive shows put in a lot of hard work and effort to get their dogs prepared for quality shows like this and she’s looking forward to entering her own dog in the competition.
Anyone who might want to enter their dog into the show can pre-register at [email protected].
The cost is $30 per dog.
The show begins Friday evening at 6 p.m. and continues starting Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m. each day.
Spectators are welcome all weekend free of charge, but there will be a $3 fee to park your vehicle.
The show will take place across from the clubhouse at Nk’Mip RV Park.
