Multiple violation tickets were handed out by police on Dec. 16 after two males reportedly ran away from a motor vehicle accident and then returned to the scene.

Oliver RCMP attended a two-vehicle collision at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Black Sage Road and Kilback Road.

Police say one complainant was driving a 2013 Toyota Camry southbound on Black Sage Road when a 1992 Mazda crossed the centre line and side-swiped the Camry.

According to police, the driver and passenger of the Mazda fled the scene. The occupants of the Toyota were assessed by paramedics and declined transport to the hospital, reporting only minor injuries.

While police were waiting for tow trucks to arrive, the two males who fled returned to the vehicle.

Police say both claimed they were not driving and referred to some girl. They did not know her name or anything about her, according to the report.

“The story was not believable and one of the males, who was the registered owner of the Mazda, was arrested for being intoxicated in public,” said Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth.

Multiple violation tickets (more than $1,300) were issued to the 35-year-old registered owner, including driving without due care.

Police say the 18-year-old passenger of the Mazda was picked up at the Oliver RCMP by his mother.
