Deep Roots, the Oliver Museum’s new permanent exhibit officially opened to the public on Wednesday evening.

“It was very intimidating to come into Oliver and be tasked with your history,” Manda Maggs, the society’s executive director told attendees at the opening reception.

“I learned a lot about Oliver researching this exhibit. Oliver has a lot of character; it’s a really fantastic little community and I think this community is at a pivotal point in its history.”

Maggs said there were three goals for the exhibit: for it to be inclusive, accessible and interactive.

As a result, the exhibit includes indigenous history from the area, is translated into Punjabi and even has a selfie station where people can dress up and insert themselves into old photographs of Oliver.

The exhibit is open Tuesday to Friday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
