Kids, start your engines, er, junkboxes . . . April 23 is going to be a big day in Oliver.
The 1st Oliver Cubs is once again planning their street racing event of the year on Skagit Avenue from 8 am to 4 pm.
Three young Cubs impressed Oliver Town council Monday night as they requested the closure of Skagit to host the annual derby. They also requested 10 traffic barriers from Public Works to assist them in closing off the area to motorists.
The day-long competition will see more than 100 youth from the South Okanagan race their prized junkboxes for fame and glory.
A barbecue and awards ceremony are also planned.
The public is invited to cheer on their favourite competitors.
