Falling to 0-7 early in the season, the Osoyoos Coyotes are going to have a new face in net when the Sicamous Eagles come to town on Oct. 5.

The Coyotes have acquired 20-year-old goalie Curt Doyle from the Nelson Leafs in a one-for-one trade, giving up forward Adam Diotte.

“Great player of ours, but that’s what Nelson wanted for the top-end goalie in the league,” head coach Dean Maynard said. “Our team is going to miss Adam he’s a huge part of our team, but we felt we needed net presence for the upcoming games.”

Doyle is a “technical goalie,” sought after by a lot of teams in the KIJHL, Maynard said.

“Very excited to have him here.”

The Coyotes also let go of goaltender Braedyn Funke in a trade for forward Dylan Stevenson of the Nanaimo Buccaneers.

“Once Brandon Della Paolera makes his way back to the line-up, he’s just recovering from an injury he had in Junior A, he’s going to be in the line-up here soon. So once all those are set in stone, we are going to have a pretty strong team from the back end all the way to front end,” Maynard said.

The Coyotes are still searching for a win this season, losing back-to-back games to the Summerland Steam (8-2 on Sept. 25 at home, and 3-4 in Summerland on Sept. 27). The Coyotes’ losing streak continued at home on Sept. 28 coming up one goal short against the Kelowna Chiefs in a high scoring 7-6 loss.

“I’m telling everybody around we can compete against these high-end teams, obviously, and you will see a different outcome here Saturday,” Maynard said.

The Sicamous Eagles come to the Sun Bowl Arena in Osoyoos at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 5.
