Another COVID-19 exposure has been reported at Southern Okanagan Secondary School.

District Superintendent Bev Young said a member of the school community tested positive for the virus. The exposure event was dated March 31 and April 1. The school’s last exposure event was reported in December of 2020.

Young said the individual is self-isolating at home with support from public health teams.

“We are supporting Interior Health Authority as they undertake contact tracing to determine if any other members of our school community were in contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19.”

Young said the authority will determine if anyone in the school community is a close contact that is required to self-isolate.

She said if people are not contacted by Interior Health, it has been determined that their child is not at risk of developing COVID-19.

To protect privacy rights, no further details are being released.

“The safety and well-being of our students, families and staff remains our highest priority, Young said, noting the school will continue to implement strict protocols and procedures so that children can continue to attend school as safely as possible.

“Students should continue to come to school while contact tracing is underway. As a reminder, please continue daily health checks to monitor your child for illness,” Young said.
