Members of the public are invited to attend the town’s annual general meeting in June.
The Community Charter requires that council hold an AGM to consider the annual report before June 30 of each year. The public will have an opportunity to address council regarding the annual report.
Council approved holding the AGM on Monday, June 6 in council chambers.
The meeting will be held at 1 p.m., an hour before the regular open meeting of council.
Council extends Building Centre lease until 2019
Town council has unanimously agreed to provide Osoyoos Home Building Centre with a lease extension of the town-owned property until the end of 2019.
The main lease document, which included the RDOS, town and Home Building Centre management, was executed earlier, however, the lease for the town property will now be officially recognized.
The owner of Osoyoos Home Building Centre signed a four-year lease extension last year, only a couple of weeks after announcing he was going to close the store.
The town had signed an agreement with the Osoyoos Museum Society, which was planning to move into the current Home Building Centre location in the fall of 2016.
Town council stepped in and agreed to extend the Home Building Centre lease as they wanted to save 16 full-time jobs and ensure Osoyoos had a lumber and home building supplies store.
Home Hardware had purchased land up near the Osoyoos Airport and had planned to move from its current location on Main Street, however, construction plans were cancelled due to a sluggish local and provincial economy.
The new lease deal extends until the end of 2019 and the Osoyoos Museum Society still hopes to move into its new home in the spring of 2020.
Until then, the museum continues to operate out of its current home near Gyro Park and the Osoyoos Seniors Centre, where it has been located for decades.
Model aviation club will keep using airport
Town of Osoyoos council has voted unanimously to extend its current use agreement for members of the Penticton Model Aviation Club (PENMAC) to continue using the Osoyoos Airport grounds for another year.
Club members gather at the Osoyoos Airport on a regular basis to fly their model airplanes.
There have been no issues in the past with the use of the airport by PENMAC and insurance is provided through the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada in the amount of $2,000, which is paid for by club members.
The agreement between the town and club will expire on Dec. 31, 2016.
