The Town of Oliver is advising residents of reports of a cougar sighting in the Mountainview Drive area and urging residents to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines when outdoors, especially during early morning or evening hours.
If you encounter a cougar, do not run as this can trigger an attack, and remain calm. Make yourself look as large as possible, wave your arms, speak loudly and keep the cougar in front of you at all times. If a cougar attacks, fight back aggressively using rocks, sticks, or any available weapon, aiming for its face and eyes, and continue to fight even if knocked down.
