The wheels of an intervention table to help people in acutely elevated risk will soon begin turning in the South Okanagan.
This morning the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Committee in Oliver recommended that Town council access funding to establish a hub table in the South Okanagan.
The funding through the Ministry of Attorney General will go towards setting up the table and training members to help people in crises.
The people who will most benefit from this project are those suffering from drug addiction, mental health problems and homelessness.
The decision was made this morning after the committee heard from Deb Scarborough, co-chair of Penticton’s intervention table.
She said their 23-member group has had “tremendous success” helping vulnerable people, and she believes the hub table in Oliver and Osoyoos will be similarly effective.
