Five Osoyoos teenagers will be vying to become Queen and Princesses with the Osoyoos Royalty program at the upcoming pageant, scheduled for Monday, June 30 in the theatre at Osoyoos Secondary School. Here’s a look at all of the contestants.
Teagen Aspell – Miss Cascade Stucco
I am in Grade 10 at Osoyoos Secondary School. I am 16 years old. In school I enjoy singing and dancing and participated in the One Short Day Production. After high school, I would love to do a year of Rotary Exchange in a foreign country. I enjoy travelling, so seeing a new part of the world sounds like a great adventure. Later on, I would like to go to Okanagan College for business. I love baking so sharing my love of baking with people sounds like a great plan for my future. I decided to join the Royalty Program because I was curious to see what the program had to offer me, including becoming a more confident public speaker and learning more about my community. I have enjoyed visiting the Osoyoos Museum and learning about Osoyoos’ past. I would like to thank my sponsor Cascade Stucco for all of their support.
Amara Leeson – Miss Desert Aire Realty
I am 16 years old and have lived in the Okanagan Valley my entire life. I am a straight A student who enjoys volleyball, writing, drawing, dance, as well as spending time with those I care about. I plan on going to university after high school and travelling as much as I can. Being a candidate for the Osoyoos Royalty program has been a wonderful experience so far. Since I want to travel when I am older, the travelling that is done within this program is definitely the first step. I have already gained knowledge that will help me as years go on. Since I am quite a shy person, this program is guiding me to break out of my comfort zone. I am so thankful for the chance to be a part of this program. I would like to thank my wonderful sponsor, Carol Youngberg from Desert Aire Reality.
Josie McCullough – Miss Legion
I am 14 years old and currently living in Osoyoos although I was born and raised in Toronto. I hope to become an actress one day and go to a high school that majors in the fine arts. I am a very outgoing person and love to keep busy. I have been in four sports this year and about five clubs, including the Royalty Program. I have learned new skills such as how to stand, sit, and walk properly in heels and skirts or dresses. I have also learned how to speak in public without being extremely nervous. I hope that this program will shape and change me into a better person when it comes to interacting with different people. I am very thankful that I have had lots of support during this program from my sponsor the Osoyoos Legion.
Ali Hutter – Miss Mariposa Gardens
I am 15 years old and am in Grade 9 at Osoyoos Secondary School. I love to spend time with my friends and family. In the summer, I adore going in my family boat whether it is surfing, wakeboarding or just relaxing. In the winter, I love to ski. I like to play basketball, volleyball and I have recently started to play soccer. The Osoyoos Royalty Program has taught me a lot about myself and Osoyoos. I have learnt many valuable skills that I will have for the rest of my life, including the ability to talk in public without being scared and shy, how to manage time and money, as well as to be confident with myself. I would like to send a heartfelt thank you to my sponsors Will McKay and Jerry Nowee of Baltic Properties, representing Mariposa Gardens, for supporting me in this wonderful journey.
Jewel McCullough – Miss Elks #436
I was born in Toronto, Ontario and only recently moved to Osoyoos. I attend Osoyoos Secondary School and plan to graduate there. My main interests are art, watching scary movies and going shopping. One of the main reasons why I joined the Osoyoos Royalty program was to learn new skills such as public speaking. I am a shy person and this has helped me to break out of my shell. l hope to travel a little bit more before I am done this program and meet new people while travelling. I appreciate the great help from my sponsor, the Osoyoos Elks Lodge #436. All of this would not be possible without them.
