The cause of a car fire in Gyro Beach parking lot in Osoyoos on the weekend is still a mystery.

Deputy Fire Chief Ryan McCaskill said the RCMP noticed a car’s engine smoking while parked. The officer notified Osoyoos Fire Rescue before proceeding to look for the car’s owner and the owners of nearby vehicles that were also “smoking.”

“On arrival of Command, flames were coming from the engine compartment,” McCaskill said. “Command grabbed a fire extinguisher and knocked the fire down until the first arriving engine was able to pull a water line and completely extinguish the fire.”

McCaskill said a couple of other vehicles parked in the vicinity received damage from the fire.

There were no injuries and the cause is unknown, he stated.
