The RCMP are investigating a truck fire that caused a grass fire on Black Sage Road early Thursday morning.
Oliver firefighters had a rude awakening this morning when they were called to a vehicle fire that quickly turned into a grass fire on Black Sage Road.
Media relations officer Rob Graham said they got the call at approximately 2:45 a.m. in the 4000 block, not far past the landfill turnoff road.
First on scene, Chief Dan Skaros informed the crews that they had a grass fire aggressively burning up the hillside. While the first truck dealt with the vehicle (pickup) on fire, a second truck dealt with the grass fire.
Graham said the fire was moving quickly but they managed to flank it and stop it from advancing beyond two hectares. No structures were threatened. Graham said it could have been a different story if the fire occurred mid-day.
Graham said the burning truck had no occupant when they arrived.
The Oliver RCMP is investigating.
