The Town of Oliver, in consultation with Interior Health, is issuing a Boil Water Notice effective March 15 until further notice, for in-town water system for the planned domestic water main relining project.
Under a Boil Water Notice, it is recommended that children, the elderly and those with weakened immunity use water brought to a rolling boil for one minute or more, or seek an alternative safe source, for brushing teeth, drinking, making baby formula and ice, preparing food and beverages and washing fruits and vegetables.
It is anticipated that the Boil Water Notice will be in place for the properties listed until the end of March. The town says the project is necessary to increase the life span of the existing water main that feeds the reservoir to ensure the quality of water moving forward.
The properties affected have been supplied with an alternative water supply due to the main supply to each property being shut off. The alternative supply is being sourced from fire hydrants which feed temporary pipes laid across front lawns and along the side of the road. These pipes are then connected to the outside water faucet of each house which then pressurizes each house’s water supply effectively in reverse.

A temporary alternative water supply was set up to provide residents with water for the two week period of the relining project. Don Urquhart photo.
