School District 53’s outgoing secretary treasurer Lynda Minnabarriet says the board is in good hands with her replacement, Subra Paliappa.

Minnabarriet resigned from her position recently to return to School District 74 full time based on a “variety of reasons including family circumstances and staff changes” in SD74.

“I have really enjoyed working with the board and staff of SD53 and will definitely miss the work and the people,” she said. “I also know that SD53 is in great hands with Subra’s appointment as secretary treasurer.”

Minnabarriet said district staff in Okanagan-Similkameen are doing great work for students, and “sometimes that gets lost when other political items are in the news.”

Board chair Marieze Tarr said they accepted Minnabarriet’s resignation with great regret.

“We thank Lynda for her strong leadership as well as her fiscal guidance and valuable knowledge of governance,” Tarr said. “Lynda’s passion for public education and student success has guided her work in our district and she will be missed.”

Tarr said the board was pleased to appoint Paliappa (assistant secretary-treasurer) to the position of secretary treasurer.

Tarr said the board will not be replacing his position but has created a new position entitled Director of Instruction – Student Learning and Inquiry.
