Home field advantage paid dividends for local archers when the Southern Okanagan Sportsmen’s Association hosted the BC Archery Association Indoor Target Championships April 4-5 at the Eastlink Curling Centre in Oliver.
There were eight members of the Okanagan Sportsmen’s Association competing in the two-day event. Six local competitors won medals.
In junior compound bow, Taylor Baptiste recorded 1,012 points through two rounds, well behind winner Jennifer Stern, and three points better than Heather Kitberg, giving Baptiste second place and the silver medal.
In the compound bow male 50-years category, Antonio Souto picked up 1,111 points, giving him third place, just 64 points behind the winner, Dale Chapplow.
Ron Ostermeier, event organizer, competed in the compound bow male 60-years category. The event produced some excellent target shooting, with the top three finishing a mere 10 points apart. Rick Scammell took gold with 1,172 points, Al Campsall the silver with 1,169 points, and Ostermeier was third with 1,162 points.
Competing in the compound bow peewee division, Nathaniel Talbot took first place with 451 points.
In the compound bow pre-cub event, Andrew Talbot won gold with total point accumulation of 855 points.
Kevin Talbot won a silver medal. Competing in the compound bow uni division, Kevin picked up 1,056 points, 89 points behind winner Clint George.
Also in the competition, Brooke Tanner, competing in the compound cub division, earned 627 points through two rounds.
Competing in the compound bow senior division, Lisa Talbot finished with 1,067 points, a mere 23 points out of third place and the medal count. The event was won by Sydney Watson.
It’s a busy time for British Columbia archers.
The Southern Okanagan Sportsmen’s Association will host the B.C. Archery Association Junior Olympic Program (JOP) Indoor Championships April 19 at Eastlink Curling Centre.
