Youth rolls vehicle

On January 28 Oliver RCMP received a report of a single vehicle rollover on Fairview Road heading towards Ripley Lake.

An investigator located a group of Oliver teenagers, one of which was the driver of the 2001 Subaru Forester.

Police say the driver was driving too fast around a sharp corner and lost control. The young driver was issued violation tickets for failing to keep right and driving contrary to restriction.

Windows smashed

At least two windows were apparently smashed at the former Action Plumbing and Heating building on Main Street last weekend.

Oliver RCMP could not be reached to confirm if it was vandalism.

Cops looking for distracted drivers

The RCMP will be targeting distracted drivers across BC for the entire month of February.

On Valentine’s Day, February 14, the police will be ensuring that loved ones get home safely through increased enforcement.

Last year, 27 per cent of collision fatalities in BC were caused by distracted or inattentive drivers, despite over 40,000 violation tickets being issued for use of electronic device or driving without due care and attention.

Each year, on average, 91 people die due to distracted driving-related crashes. The fine for using an electronic device while operating a motor vehicle is $167.
