An upcoming public hearing will deal with a zoning amendment application for the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church property in Oliver.
Last week Town council heard from its consultant, Tom Szalay, about a zoning amendment and development variance permit application for 428 Skagit Avenue.
This proposal is seeking to rezone parts of the subject parcel to facilitate the subdivision of two new parcels. Specifically, it is proposed to amend the zoning from Institutional and Assembly to Residential Low Density One.
The applicant has stated that the large land area currently occupied by St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is “no longer required due to decline in membership” and that the “extra money (from the sale of the proposed new parcels) is needed in order to continue the congregation.”
The applicant also seeks relaxation of parking and loading requirements for the church in order to accommodate the subdivisions.
Lot A is proposed to be a vacant residential property, while Lot B is proposed to be a new lot occupied by the existing church and parking areas. Lot C is proposed to be a single family property containing an existing home.
The variance involves reducing the number of parking spaces from 39 to 30 on Lot B, and removing an existing storage garage.
The public hearing is slated for December 14.
