Dear Editor:

This letter is written in regards to the article that appeared in the Nov. 2 edition of the Osoyoos Times under the headline, ‘Survey cited by premier on national park doesn’t exist.’

Premier Christy Clark should be ashamed for misrepresenting public support for a National Park in the region.

Either she is completely misinformed about an issue that is of the utmost importance to businesses, Aboriginal communities and the protection of this rare ecosystem, or she deliberately tried to mislead and deceive people who are undecided on the issue. Either way, Clark should apologize for using fabricated evidence to downplay support for a South Okanagan National Park.

It’s simply a fact that the majority of people in the region want to see a national park protect the area, boost economic activity and create jobs.

If the premier wants to overrule the majority – who support these goals – then she should be honest about it and not use evidence that she invented to support the preferred position of her and her MLA Linda Larson.

Clark has a habit of telling the public things that simply aren’t true. Earlier this year she stated that an Aboriginal community had voted overwhelmingly in favour of an LNG project.

The problem is it didn’t happen. What did happen is that the community near-unanimously voted against the project.

No other vote is on record as having occurred.

So it is no surprise now that Clark has once again cited fabricated evidence to support her position when the facts don’t suit her case.

Thank you.
