Toes are sure to be tapping during the next concert in the Osoyoos Concert Series.
That’s because Gordie MacKeeman & His Rhythm Boys will be bringing their special blend of folk, bluegrass and Celtic music to the community theatre at Osoyoos Secondary School on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
Hailing from Prince Edward Island, MacKeeman and The Rhythm Boys are renowned for putting on an exhilarating live show that has drawn international attention, said Pat Philpott, secretary with the Osoyoos Concert Series.
They were awarded the Roots/Traditional Group Recording of the Year at the 2014 East Coast Music Awards. They were also given the Galaxie Supernova Award at the 2012 Ottawa Folk Festival for their outstanding performance.
Tom Power, host of CBC Radio’s Deep Roots, called them his Best Discovery Band at the 2012 East Coast Music Awards.
The group toured the United Kingdom three times alone in 2014, including performing on one of the main stages at the world-famous Glastonbury Music Festival. They also toured Australia and Belgium in early 2014.
MacKeeman and his band are all great players, sharp songwriters and wonderful live performers, said Philpott.
“The leader, Gordie MacKeeman, is known for stepdancing, while playing the fiddle and getting everyone in the audience involved and enjoying themselves while he performs,” said Philpott. “The band plays a nice mix of Celtic, bluegrass and folk music and they come highly recommended, so I’m sure everyone in attendance is going to have a really good time.”
There was a good audience on hand for this year’s first concert featuring Tiller’s Folley several weeks ago and Philpott is hoping for another solid crowd for the upcoming concert.
Advance tickets are $23, while tickets at the door will be $25. Students can purchase tickets for $15.
Advance tickets are available at Imperial Office Pro in downtown Osoyoos and Sundance Video in Oliver.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
