From May 4 to 6, Oliver will be home to the annual BC Volunteer Firefighters Spring Training Seminar, which hosts over 300 volunteer firefighters from across the province.
“It’s a weekend of practical skills training that leaves much of the theoretical work in their home departments,” said Oliver Fire Department spokesman Rob Graham.
The Oliver Fire Department hosts the seminar every second year, and partners with various organizations, including FortisBC, the RCMP and other fire rescue training companies.
“These partnerships ensure the most up-to-date equipment and training is available to attending firefighters,” said Graham.
The seminar is split into 26 one-hour sessions, including live fire training, vehicle extraction, high-angle ladder rescue and swift-water rescue techniques.
Members of the public are invited to attend and watch the firefighters in action.
On May 5, the Fire Department is once again hosting the After Party, featuring live music from Penticton band Rumble 100. The licenced event is 19+ and has a $5 cover charge.
Funds from the event will go to community-based charities and towards the purchase of training equipment.
