An underutilized property at 668 Co-op Avenue is awaiting a seven-unit, multi-family development if the Town of Oliver approves it.
On Monday, council will hear a proposal to build a townhouse on the empty lot (on Fairview Road) between the post office and the high school. The proposal comes with variances to decrease the minimum rear and side setbacks from six metres to three.
Director of Development Services Randy Houle has recommended that council approve the application.
“Staff consider that the design is appropriate for the site and will fit well with the surrounding neighbourhood. It will fill an empty and underutilized lot.”
Houle also said that seven new three-bedroom units will help address the 59 additional units required by 2025 as identified in Oliver’s housing needs study.
He noted that several items will need upgrading along Fairview Road, including a new curb, gutter, sidewalk, turf boulevard, trees and new parking spaces.
Chief Administrative Officer Cathy Cowan said the development will enhance the area and provide needed housing in the community.
