Minister of Health Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced only one new COVID-19 case in the province on Friday.

One case from Thursday’s total was removed due to a data error, keeping the total case count at 2,632.

“There are 193 active cases of COVID-19 in the province and 2,272 people who tested positive have recovered,” said Dix and Dr. Henry in a joint written statement.

One new death was reported. Twenty-one of the active cases are hospitalized, with five in intensive care.

No new community or health care facility outbreaks were reported. There are eight ongoing community outbreaks and five ongoing health care outbreaks in the province.

Dix and Dr. Henry continue to urge British Columbians to assess their own situations to determine their own level of exposure as the province continues on its path towards reopening.

“This means you should continue to assess your risk with every step and take precautions to protect yourself and those around you,” said the joint statement. “Without exception, always stay home when ill and follow the rules for safe physical distancing.”

They continued to say progress is being made in learning about the virus, as shown in yesterday’s modelling presentation.

“We have learned a lot about COVID-19. Most importantly, we have learned that we must all stay vigilant, that a slow and thoughtful approach will protect us and keep us safe, and that by working together and doing our part, we will get through this.”
