7-Eleven Oliver
Oh, thank heaven for 7-Eleven.
Before we dive into this review, let me be absolutely clear: I do not get paid to write these. There’s no sponsorship, no free “swag” and no backdoor deals with employees. I haven’t “sold out,” nor have I been bribed by any global conglomerate that is 7-Eleven. Yes, this is a review about the food at the 7-Eleven in Oliver, BC—and yes, I’m completely serious. And there’s a very good reason for it.
The 7-Eleven in Oliver is one of a kind. It holds a little-known secret that sets it apart not just from other locations, but from most fast food places entirely. What’s the secret?
They have a full kitchen in the back. And in that kitchen, a very special woman has been hand-breading and frying chicken for the past 18 years.
If you’ve never tried the chicken at the Oliver 7-Eleven, let this be your call to action. It’s not your standard heat-lamp or microwave fare. It doesn’t taste like generic “fast food” chicken. It’s genuinely good—shockingly good. I first discovered it years ago during my time working night shifts as a police officer. Back then, it was one of the best-kept local secrets that few people even knew existed.
Last week, I stopped in to speak with Varinder, the store manager, who was surprised (and delighted) to learn I wanted to highlight their store and chicken. He explained that their store is one of only a handful in Canada that fries chicken fresh, in-house. Nothing is pre-cooked or microwaved. Their kitchen runs like a small-scale restaurant. In fact, they sell around 1,000 pieces of chicken every single day—by far their most popular item.
I’ve sampled just about everything: drumsticks, thighs, wings, breasts—each available in flavours like buffalo, lemon pepper, honey garlic, and classic crispy. But what really elevates it is the person behind it all.
Her name is Ive, and she’s nothing short of a local legend. Originally from Brazil, Ive and her family moved to Canada nearly two decades ago. She’s been working at this very 7-Eleven ever since—five days a week, eight hours a day, tirelessly perfecting her chicken. According to Varinder’s numbers, that means Ive has personally fried over 1.5 million pieces of chicken since she started. Let that sink in.
She’s developed a routine that delivers consistently juicy, crispy, golden-brown perfection. And even after 18 years, she still comes to work with a smile, proud of what she does. She isn’t just making chicken—she’s setting a standard. Ive is a quiet inspiration and a shining example for any employee in any field.
You won’t see her unless you catch her slipping out of the kitchen to restock the display cabinet when the chicken runs out—but if you do, say hi. She’ll gladly talk to you about her process and why the chicken tastes so good. And trust me: once you try it, you’ll understand why she is so proud of her work.
Some people might roll their eyes at this article. “It’s 7-Eleven,” they’ll say. But before you judge, go try it. You’ll be stunned not only by how good the chicken is, but by how affordable it is. And on Wing Wednesdays, it’s even cheaper. Honestly, you won’t find wings this big and this good at that price anywhere else.
So next time you’re hosting a BBQ, planning a sleepover, or just need something crispy after a day of wine touring or a night out, thank heaven for the Oliver 7-Eleven.
And if you’re lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Ive, the Chicken Lady, be sure to tell her Sheldon sent you.
7-Eleven is located at 6080 Main Street, Oliver and is open 24/7, tel: 250-498-3838.
