Oliver firefighters are warning residents that burn piles can get out of control, even this time of year.
Crews responded to a burning pile of prunings that transformed into a brush fire in the area of Road 20 on Feb. 17.
Crews were able to knock the fire down and contain it to an area of grassland/marshland approximately one hectare in size.
“Even with recent cool temperatures and slight chances of snow, several areas are unusually dry at this time of year,” the fire department said.
Fire officials urge residents to use caution when burning in areas where the flames could spread to brush. They also advise people to have water nearby in case the fire gets out of control.
