The last lobster on the beach has “screamed” as the Rotary Club of Osoyoos has bid adieu to the long-running, hugely popular Lobster on the Beach event in favour of a western-themed event.

In a statement today, the local Rotarians announced the launch of a new signature fundraising event, “Under the Desert Moon,” a western-themed evening to be held on September 26, 2026, at Spirit Ridge Hotel and Resort.

“This new initiative marks an important evolution in the Club’s fundraising activities, following the longstanding success of its hallmark event, Lobster on the Beach,” the club said in its statement.

“Over the years, Lobster on the Beach has played a significant role in supporting Rotary’s charitable work while fostering strong community engagement throughout the South Okanagan.”

It also extended its “sincere appreciation” to the many sponsors, volunteers, and attendees whose continued support contributed to the enduring success of Lobster on the Beach. The event took a small army of volunteers to pull off the actual lobster event, including shipping lobsters from the east coast.

The event ran for 16 years, consecutively selling out each year.

“As we look to the future, the Club remains committed to strengthening its impact while exploring new and engaging ways to connect with our community,” said Valerie Rasmussen,  President, Rotary Club of Osoyoos.

“We are proud of the legacy of Lobster on the Beach and are pleased to introduce  Under the Desert Moon as the next chapter in our fundraising efforts,” she said.

Under the Desert Moon promises a “distinctive western-inspired experience in a premier Osoyoos setting.” This will include a BBQ buffet, dancing, live and silent auctions, along with what Rotary teases as “a few surprises”. It added that the volunteer-powered community service group willl continue the Club’s tradition of hosting “high-quality events in support of meaningful community initiatives.”

Proceeds from the event will continue to support the Rotary Club of Osoyoos’ work in community programs, youth initiatives, and local projects, ensuring that the Club’s impact remains strong and growing, it added.

Rotary said further details regarding the event program, ticketing, and sponsorship opportunities will be released in the coming months.
