Go ahead, make my year.
Well, that’s exactly what Buy-Low Foods in Oliver did for Janice Watts, who won a 50-second shopping spree last Saturday.
Watts was one of many people who entered the draw as part of Buy-Low Foods’ 50th anniversary giveaway promotion.
Manager Tyler Gludovatz was nearly as thrilled as Watts to give her the opportunity to fill her shopping cart with as much stuff as possible – for free!
Watts recalled entering the draw and receiving a phone call one day from Buy-Low Foods.
“I saw Buy-Low come up on my phone, and thought, ‘I hope it’s not another crock pot; I have three of them,’” she laughed. “I was very excited. I just wanted to phone everyone.”
Watts visualized what aisles she was going to shop in and came to Buy-Low Foods early to map out the place, determining what she was going to grab.
When the timer began, she snatched two Easter bunnies for her grandchildren, and then proceeded down one aisle, throwing items into her cart. She made sure to grab two big jars of peanut butter because that’s her hubby’s favourite snack food.
She went for the more expensive stuff, but left the fruits, veggies and meat alone. “I’m not a big meat eater. Everyone said get the meat, but no thanks.”
The store limit was $500, and after all was said and done, her bill came to $509, but she didn’t mind paying the difference.
“It made my year!” she exclaimed.
